Melodic death/thrash metal group, Mess-Age was formed in March, 1998 in Gdansk, Poland through the meeting of musicians from two Tri-city projects: Alienator and Age Crisis. The original line-up was Rafal Kawalerowski (vocals), Joanna Paszke (vocals), Alex Kopczynski (lead guitar), Sylwester Rybczyk (rhythm guitar), Andrzej Osmalek (bass guitar) and Dominik Kolodziejczak (drums).

Their first albums were financed, promoted and distributed by themselves. The first demo album, Resurrection was recorded in October, 1998. The album was reviewed in several underground magazines and in the official press (Morbid Noizz, Metal Hammer, Thrash ’Em All), enabling the group to establish a growing fan base further enhanced by their next demo album, Fallen recorded in Krater studio in 1999.

In March, 2000 the band supported Hate and Yattering on a tour around Poland. During the same month, they recorded Reborn in Red Studio, Gdansk which was later that year re-released as an official album by Demonic Records in combination with Shadows Land.

Further interest in the band resulted in their music being included on various compilation albums, including a U.S. collection supporting the Polish underground by Mortary Khage Productions, and radio appearances on Radiostacja, Warsaw and Radio Park FM.

The group also played in a festival in Chmielno, where a friend of the band Piotr 'Zvierzak' Kawalerowski (from Ghost) stood in for Andrzej Osmalek. This was the second festival they had performed in, the previous one being a festival in Starogard Gdanski. Joanna Paszke left the band in September, 2000. before other major festival appearances at the Third Millennium Festival in Gdansk and their first Polish national tour as part of the Dark Zone Tour 2000.

Finally in 2000, Mess-Age were ranked first and second in the web-magazine Multum In Parvo concerning downloading of songs in MP3 format.

Eventually they secured a record contract signing for Conquerer Records, their first album with the label being Self - Convicted in 2002.
