The band Delirious has its origins in a series of Christian youth events called “Cutting Edge” in 1992 organized by Martin Smith (vocals), Tim Jupp (Keyboard) and Stew Smith (drums) in their church in Littlehampton. After a few months, they were playing in front of 1000 or more as well as making a number of home recordings sold from church halls and car parks.

A near fatal car accident involving Martin Smith and bass player Jon Thatcher caused the band to reassess their lives and surrendering themselves completely to God, they decided to become professional musicians.

The band was named Delirious and they founded their own label, Furious Records. The band consisted of Martin Smith (vocals), Stew Smith (drums), Tim Jupp (keyboards), Jon Thatcher (bass) and Stu G (guitars). Their first album, King of Fools was released in 1997 and reached no.13 in the UK album charts boosted by a now huge underground Christian fan base. The first Delirious single White Ribbon Day reached no.41 in the UK charts and Deeper and Promise both reached no.20, leading to extensive UK and US tours. A Deeper EP featured a live recording of Delirious performing in front of over 50,000 at the “Champion of the World” Christian event at Wembley Stadium and reached no.36. An album of live material, Live and in the Can soon followed.

The album, Mezzamorphis was released in 1998 and despite negligible media coverage, reached no.25 in the UK with a single See The Star reaching no.16 in the UK charts.

During 2000 the album, Glo was released and a single Its OK reached the UK no.18.

A big breakthrough occurred during 2001 when they supported Bon Jovi on tour and a single Waiting for the Summer reached no.26 in the UK in 2001.

Audio Lesson Over? was their next album and they supported Bryan Adams on tour during 2002.

During 2003, a deal was struck with EMI for the promotion and distribution of their music. The album, Everyone was released and Delirious toured North America as support for Sonicflood.  Delirious? also performed in front of over 20,000 at the Hillsong  Christian conference in Australia. A 30 minute documentary of the group called “The Frame” was shown in March throughout the UK’s south coast.

World Service was released at the end of the year. Two singles, Majesty (Here I am) and Rain Down were available free to all on www.mp3.com registering thousands of downloads and enabling Majesty to reach no.15 and Rain Down no.28.

One of the highlights of their 2004 touring included a combined worship concert with The Hillsong Band in front of 20,000 at the Sydney Olympic Superdome, highlights of which were released on a cd and dvd towards the end of the year.
